Three Questions

This morning, I read a short story titled ” Three Question” written by Russian Novelist and Moral Philosopher, Leo Tolstoy in 1903. This story revolves around a King who was trying to find out answers for three question:

1. What was the right time for every action?
2. Who were the right people to listen to and whom to avoid?
3. What affairs are the most important and needs special attention?

1. There is only one time that is important: NOW. It is the most important time because it is the only time we have any power. No one can have any power over the past and the future. Former is irreversible and the latter is unpredictable.
2. The right people to listen to are the people with whom we are now. We can’t avoid them. We can only listen to them. Whether to act upon their opinions or advises is our choice after listening to them. Whether we like or dislike, whether we trust or distrust, we are bound to listen to the people with whom we are. If we avoid the people with whom we are, only outcome is Antagonism between them and us. In my personal opinion, I am very sure that no one wants to grow enmity with others.
3. The most important business to do is, to do good for the person whom we are with now, because for that purpose alone was man sent into this life.

These three answers for the three questions are only way to establish Tolerance, Acceptance and Wisdom in once own life. In my opinion, these are the only ways we can grow understanding and harmony, and only ways to avoid tussles and hatred from poisoning individuals life. Human Beings are called HOMO SAPIENS. It is a Latin word meaning ‘Wise Man’. We can call ourselves Homo Sapiens only when we are wise. Otherwise, may be we should replace Sapiens with new species name.
